چکیده

This paper presents a new powerful side-channel cryptanalytic method algebraic collision attacks representing an efficient class of power analysis being based on both the power consumption information leakage and specific structure of the attacked cryptographic algorithm. This can result in an extremely low measurement count needed for a key recovery. The algebraic collision attacks are well applicable to AES, if one-byte collisions are detectable. For the recovery of the complete AES key, one needs 3 measurements with a probability of 0.42 and 4.24 PC hours postprocessing, 4 measurements with a probability of 0.82 and several seconds of offline computations or 5 measurements with success probability close to 1 and several seconds post-processing.

Algebraic Methods in Side-Channel Collision Attacks and Practical Collision Detection

This paper presents algebraic collision attacks, a new powerful cryptanalytic method based on side-channel leakage which allows for low measurement counts needed for a successful key recovery in case of AES. As opposed to many other side-channel attacks, these techniques are essentially based on the internal structure of the attacked cryptographic algorithm, namely, on the algebraic properties ...

Multiple-Differential Side-Channel Collision Attacks on AES

In this paper, two efficient multiple-differential methods to detect collisions in the presence of strong noise are proposed binary and ternary voting. After collisions have been detected, the cryptographic key can be recovered from these collisions using such recent cryptanalytic techniques as linear [1] and algebraic [2] collision attacks. We refer to this combination of the collision detecti...

Error-Tolerant Algebraic Side-Channel Attacks Using BEE

Algebraic side-channel attacks are a type of side-channel analysis which can recover the secret information with a small number of samples (e.g., power traces). However, this type of side-channel analysis is sensitive to measurement errors which may make the attacks fail. In this paper, we propose a new method of algebraic side-channel attacks which considers noisy leakages as integers restrict...

Two New Techniques of Side-Channel Cryptanalysis

We describe two new techniques of side-channel cryptanalysis which we call the impossible collision attack and the multiset collision attack. These are inspired by the state-of-the-art cryptanalytic techniques of impossible differential attacks [BBS99] and partial-function collision attacks [GM00] respectively. Using these techniques on an example of the AES we show that one has to mask all the...

Improved Side-Channel Collision Attacks on AES

Side-channel collision attacks were proposed in [1] and applied to AES in [2]. These are based on detecting collisions in certain positions of the internal state after the first AES round for different executions of the algorithm. The attack needs about 40 measurements and 512 MB precomputed values as well as requires the chosen-plaintext possibility. In this paper we show how to mount a collis...
